Tulln

The history of Tulln began more than 2000 years ago with the construction of the Roman cavalry camp Comagena. A tower on the bank of the Danube, called the Roman Tower, has been preserved.

The famous Tulln "Karner", an ossuary and chapel dating from the 13th century, and the parish church tell of a rich and distinguished past. The buildings from the early modern era are also worth seeing: the town tower and the Minorite Abbey and church. It was supposedly in Tulln that Kriemhild's bride reception took place, organised by Etzel. The Nibelungen Memorial, built in 2005, is an interpretation of this scene. Along with the Nibelungen Square, which creates an open space between the town centre and the Danube, the Nibelungen have taken centre stage in the development of the town.

The town on both banks of the Danube is the political and economic centre of the Tullnerfeld landscape, which is bordered by the Vienna Woods in the south and the Wagram hills in the north. Surrounded by beautiful gardens, Tulln is also known as the "Town of Roses". It is the capital of the Tulln district and has a population of around 14,000.
